[Vision Hindered] - Hand Finished A3 Print
Original Colourway. Edition of 99.
Vision Hindered.. [by what?]. This piece provides social commentary on an epidemic of blindness perpetuated in society. We are told to go to school, go to university, get a job, get married, have kids, work until you retire, then die. It's a sad and criminally un-unique existence that many find themselves blindly following, some realising but feeling trapped within it's constraints, and others blindly unaware of this cookie-cutter existence.
Vision Hindered notably portrays the latin quote: "in regione caecorum rex est luscus" or, "in the kingdom of the blind the one-eyed man is king".
As well as reference to the bible verse [Mathew] 15:14 - "Let them alone; they are blind guides. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit"
When collectively considering the image and the seemingly innocuous details, a narrative of achievement being the result of breaking the status quo, opening ones eyes to the systems we find ourselves in and allowing ourselves to succeed [or to become a king] only when we stop following the blind.
