[Stoneheart] - Hand Finished A3 Print
Original Colourway print. Edition of 99.
Stoneheart is a contemporary take on the ancient Greek story of Medusa.
The monster of this globally recognised tale, was lesser known for her origins... and this is important to the narrative of the piece.
The image has the Greek words "ΝΑ ΓΙΝΕΙΣ ΤΕΡΑΣ ΕΙΝΑΙ Η ΤΡΑΓΩΔΙΑ" or " To become the monster is a tragedy".
Much like the story of Medusa, we are all exposed to traumas that have the ability to heavily dictate our future, and the person, or monster, we become.
The Medusa presented in Stoneheart, hides themselves behind a mask, comparable to the masks we often wear in life to not show the people around us what is going on, the true feelings, traumas, and issues we bare. Yet, people often do this for others as much as themselves. Through Medusa hiding her face, which would othewise petrify those who would see her, she is protecting them, and this forms a rather clear analogy on how we protect others from traumas by burying them.
Yet, the piece is further ordained with a yellow heart, and the letters 'HWC' Graffitied onto the torso, standing for "Handle With Care". Both features referencing the fact that this monster is in fact a being that feels, but is also in need of support.
